Overview:
The Critical Access Hospital Biller at our West Ascension Hospital Service District, Prevost Memorial Hospital, plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely billing for our services. This position requires a strong understanding of both billing practices and accounting principles to effectively manage financial transactions and records.
Responsibilities:
- Resolves pre- billing and post- billing claim rejections/denials in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with billing regulations and guidelines.
- Submit claims to insurance companies and government agencies.
- Accounting:
- Manage accounts receivable and payable processes.
- Reconcile billing statements with accounts and records.
- Prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting processes.
- Patient Interaction:
- Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide explanations of charges.
- Coordinate payment plans and financial assistance programs as needed.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing and accounting records.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with other departments, such as medical records and finance, to resolve billing issues.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies and government agencies regarding billing matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CPB) preferred.
