Overview:

The Critical Access Hospital Biller at our West Ascension Hospital Service District, Prevost Memorial Hospital, plays a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely billing for our services. This position requires a strong understanding of both billing practices and accounting principles to effectively manage financial transactions and records.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolves pre- billing and post- billing claim rejections/denials in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with billing regulations and guidelines.
  • Submit claims to insurance companies and government agencies.
  • Accounting:
    • Manage accounts receivable and payable processes.
    • Reconcile billing statements with accounts and records.
    • Prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting processes.
  • Patient Interaction:
    • Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide explanations of charges.
    • Coordinate payment plans and financial assistance programs as needed.
  • Documentation and Record-Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing and accounting records.
    • Ensure confidentiality and security of financial information.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other departments, such as medical records and finance, to resolve billing issues.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies and government agencies regarding billing matters.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding.
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CPB) preferred.
